Afonso Oliveira has spent 14+ years figuring out how to make AI useful. He first applied this in research, earning a PhD with honors from Instituto Superior Técnico on neural networks for 5G resource allocation, then brought that rigor into product development. At Siemens, he turned scattered AI projects into a unified product that cut proof-of-concept delivery from a week to under an hour. At Mindmymind, he has built personality detection and self-reflection systems where ML, games, and LLMs meet mental health. Currently he applies the gathered knowledge to work as an AI consultant and blog writer (OliveGradient). Somewhere along the way he also co-founded a startup, won a few international hackathons, and wrote a chapter in a book on AI published by ISCTE.
